YogaBugs in association with Waybuloo

Many children watch Waybuloo from a young age and start to mimic the postures that the Piplings do during their 'yogo' time. This is a great way to introduce yoga to children and YogaBugs classes capture what children learn and enjoy about the programme in fun packed activity class.

Here are a few questions answered by Fenella about YogaBugs and Waybuloo, in an interview for the BBC. The full interview can be viewed on the CBeebies website by clicking here.

What was your role in developing the 'Waybuloo' series?

'I was asked to create the yoga content, or 'yogo' as we called it, for a concept that was described to me as a kind of spiritual 'Teletubbies'. I loved the idea from the outset, and agreed without hesitation. The real challenge was to devise yoga exercises that could be performed by characters that have pretty cumbersome heads shaped like moons and arms and legs like cocktail sausages! But I was given a little artistic license to adapt their features so that they could perform key yoga posture work.'

'Waybuloo' is one of CBeebies most successful programmes ever.
What do you think is its magic ingredient?

'I think it has struck such a chord with youngsters because it is so completely aligning with their gentle creativity, and it underpins all the essential ingredients of childhood - making friends, playing together, sharing and listening. A big part of the magic is also the way that it seamlessly brings together a 5000-year tradition with a child's contemporary experience.'
